CIJ Technology

Continuous Inkjet (CIJ) printing works by ejecting electrically charged ink droplets from a printhead nozzle and transporting them via an electrical field.

As the name implies, CIJ printheads dispense a continuous stream of ink.  The ink that is not needed for the print job is collected and recirculated back to the reservoir

Each droplet of ink is very small, only half the diameter of a human hair, and up to 120,000 drops are ejected every second. Because it is a non-contact printing method, the CIJ method is versatile. You can print on most materials, regardless of porosity, size, shape, or texture. Plus, its solvent-based ink dries instantly, making it perfect for printing onto products as they move through production lines.

The advantages that it provides include high drop velocity, permitting longer throw distances and faster throughput rates.  Additionally, since the nozzle is in continuous use, clogging is not usually a problem.

Application

The CIJ method is primarily used to print variable information on individual products, such as date, time, specific text, lot codes, product names, and logos. This is particularly useful for providing tracking data and for complying with increasingly stringent industry legislation.
